Fallout won't start a new game or instantly crashes on windows 11/10!

okay yeah this happens to me, there is one quick fix you can do.

If you know how to use Nexus mods, 7zip, and aren't new to this, skip to step 3. Or don't. I don't mind.

WHAT YOU NEED!

I'm aware most people have this shit, but just incase.

fallout new vegas or fallout 3, obviously

A nexus mod account.

Step one - Downloading the mod

Download the mod.

click the manual download button in the right!

click this button, the other one is a premium option. Where it downloads faster. Unnesscary for this mod.

once downloaded you can click it through your browser or your file explorer, if you have 7zip (as instructed) you'll see this.

Great! Now put a pin in that.

Step two - Find Your Fallout New Vegas/Fallout 3 Folder

Okay, easy right? Now if you downloaded through steam, open it up. (if you didn't, locate your folder, I assume you'd know how to do it lol.)

click this!

you'll see this now, your game, sometimes called the main folder or main game folder. For this demo im using fnv, because I like housey

Now click the top bar, so it looks like above, and copy!

Step 3 - Installing the mod

click back to this, then click the folder icon listed.

you'll see this. Ignore it and click again.

Now your here! Great, now get ready for some crazy shit. Joking, this is piss easy. click the d3d9.dll file once

you'll see this if you click exstract, if the d3d9.dll isn't blue, you didn't click it

Now that your here, paste the link/path you copied from your main game folder, then click ok!

If this pops up, press yes to all.

Step 4 - Done!

Launch the game as normal. It may recheck your graphic settings, but that is normal! You're in, enjoy fallout new vegas! Or 3! Or Tale of two wastelands!

My game keeps crashing!

that's normal. whats more important is figuring out when it's doing it

randomly during gameplay

normal. thats just what it does, no matter if it's brotherhood of steel or fallout 76, this series is fucked.

you can install mods to fix it, but even that won't stop all crashes. Avoid new vegas anti crash (NVAC) . It can cause save coruption and worse doesn't really work anymore.

on launch (vanilla)

verify your files, if that doesn't work reinstall. You may need to update your drivers.

on launch (modded)

Incompiable mods, usually. Your game maybe fucked if this happens. Do a fresh install, or go down the list of mods you have installed and disable/remove them till it works.

and crashes my pc

Don't play in fullscreen, play in window full screen. Geniunely, for some reason, this works. Oh the game still crashes but now your pc is still on.

when I do [specific in game thing]/ go [specificic in game place]

Two choices here: Stop going to there/doing that. Or look for a hyperspecific mod for a fix.

If your already modded, and it wasn't doing that before you added a mod, check to see if anyones commented about it on the page or check the reported bugs. People may have solutions or the mod author may already know and be working on a fix. If nothing, check to see what mod also effects that thing in your mod list.

If there is an issue, and you're unwilling to remove the mod, see if their is a patch uploaded or anything before commenting to alert others of the conflict.

DO NOT ANNOY MOD AUTHORS FOR A FIX they do this for free!

DO NOT INSTALL ENBS all the ENBs are made for Skyrim. Buggy glitchy mess.

generally, as long as you don't use vortex (nexus's mod manager) you can't fuck up too bad.

no one really makes mods for this game, at least in the way they do for the... heavy hitters...

Fallout New Vegas

FNV is very well loved, obviously, hence why this modding community is so fucking active. Anyway this guide will hold your hand and tell you how to install everything.

After your done you'll have a stable- well, as stable as fnv can be- game that if you want to you can easily add on to.

this guide will show you what mods to avoid!!

DO NOT USE AN ENB, IT'S, AGAIN, MEANT FOR SKYRIM.

Don't use vortex either- shitty ass fucking mod manager

Fallout 4

it's very simple.

You can use an ENB- it's fine. They say not to and they're right to, it's not nesscary and there are mods that can do the same thing. But if you prefer a ENB that's okay, your game might be slow.

Basically, you install this, set it up- which it'll guide you through- then be able to browse modlists to install.
